Someone I am is waiting for courage...
Haha, I've gone back to no details, nooooo! O_O
Now, I know that the shading is going in separate directions, but that's the look I was going for. ... Though it didn't turn out the way I wanted it.
The story behind this... It's complicated. I've thought about it too much, so there would be a lot to explain.
The man crying is Cyril, as you know. His eyes aren't red, they're green, so that rules out the almost identical man on the other side. He's technically also Cyril, but not really. It's not quite a typical split personality kind of situation, but rather a twin that has no body.
Cyril's mother was his clan's goddess, the goddess Deliris. She was ashamed enough to go so far as to have a child with a mortal, but not only that, she had twins. She decided to let at least one of them wander the lands, but she didn't want the other to die, so she removed his mind from his own body and put it into Cyril's.
All his life, Cyrus (the so-called twin), has had to watch Cyril's life without having any say in it. At a very early age, he began to hate his brother for having a body that he couldn't have. Cyril has his own mind, and you could say it's the "main mind", so Cyrus has no say or control - especially since Cyril is so very strong mentally.
So anyway, the reason for Cyril's crying... Well, he never cries, really. But sometimes, he hits a breaking point. His father, hurting over the fact that his parents died while he was still at an early age, the fact that he was technically raped, and the fact that he had to betray the one he loved because a goddess seduced him, left his two sons while they were still very young.
Cyril's outcast brother (whom you guys know as Aniki) was also his love interest's lover while growing up, and he still is. Cyril loves her almost desperately, but can't do anything. He also has to bear with the fact that she almost died once, and he blames himself for it at times.
As the son of a goddess, wings of pure white feathers occasionally come out. Usually it's once a month, and when it happens, they come straight out of the back. It's quite... agonizing for him. I know you've seen a picture of it.
Cyril is a very kind young man, and he's an extremely capable leader of Ahleris, always fair but at times very strict. Like everyone, he has his strengths and weaknesses. One weakness is his self-esteem, though he never shows it and claims he's happy without even being sure if he is or not.
Reasons for his low self-esteem are the fact that he was being bullied by his older brother when they were kids, his father never even talked to him because of his own depression, his love interest doesn't see him (only as a friend, though), and the main part - Cyrus is constantly telling him, in his mind, just how terrible and hideous he is. He knows his good qualities, but it's hard to believe them when someone's always nagging in the back of your head that you suck.
Sounds kind of "painish-boohooish", doesn't it? But I don't agree. And I don't think that this would be too much - there's a lot of details I still haven't told you, and he didn't really have only
hard times in his childhood. He got two good friends and someone to act as his mother, which made him very happy as both a child and then a man.
This character is no self-pity person. In fact, I bet a lot of people would want him to pity himself at least at some point in his life, because he never puts himself in front of anyone - except when it comes to life and death situations. In those kind of situations, he wants to save both himself, and those needing of it, because he doesn't want to cause anyone grief from his death.
I don't know how to explain Cyril as a person. But he's very sweet, but can also be very cold depending on the character he's facing. If they deserve some strictness, that's what they get unless they shape up.
... So sorry for the long one.
I hope you got some insight in his life. I wish I could explain more of my OCs stories, but I have a hard time figuring out how to explain things like that in words.
